Elevator Pitch is a series where I highlight something worth watching (or in some cases re-watching). If you have a pitch of your own, drop it in the comments.
The Daytrippers (1996)
Written and Directed by Greg Mottola
Starring: Stanley Tucci, Hope Davis, Pat McNamara, Anne Meara, Parker Posey, Liev Schrieber
Pitch: This recommendation came to me from my friend Allison’s husband David as we sat in their Jeep for what felt like eternity battling through St. Patrick’s Day/New York half marathon traffic last weekend—a fitting circumstance for this particular film recommendation as the entire plot centers around the main set piece any suburbanite who ventures into the city for adventure, or more likely chaos, knows all to well: the vintage family station wagon. Parker Posey shines as she always does, Liev Schrieber is both insanely hot and profoundly cringe, and Stanley Tucci Stanley Tuccis in that manner unique to him. The film is electric, Whit Stillman/Noah Baumbach-coded and the kind of film whose return I long for.
Where I watched: Criterion Channel
Definitely one of my top 25 recommended!
